2. Overview
This website is deliberately lean: fonts and images are hosted on our own web space; there are no Google Fonts, no embedded maps, no social media plugins and no captcha. No analytics or advertising services are used and no cookies are set.
3. Hosting and server log files
The website is hosted by IONOS SE, Elgendorfer Str. 57, 56410 Montabaur, Germany. Each time a page is accessed, the server processes technically necessary data: IP address, date and time, requested address, amount of data transferred, the previously visited page (referrer) and browser and operating system. This is necessary to deliver the website securely and reliably (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). We have a data processing agreement with IONOS. The logs are deleted after the short retention period defined by IONOS.
4. Encryption
All pages and forms are transmitted exclusively in encrypted form (HTTPS/TLS).
5. Contact form and e-mail
If you contact us via the contact form or by e-mail, we process your name, e-mail address, the selected apartment, your message and – if provided – how you heard about us. The purpose is to answer your enquiry and, where applicable, to prepare a rental contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR), otherwise our legitimate interest in communicating with prospective guests (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
The form is checked by a script on our IONOS web space and sent as an e-mail to our IONOS mailbox. The content is not stored on the web server.
Replies with AI support: Enquiries are handled by our guest assistant, which runs on our own server at IONOS in Germany. It uses the AI Claude by Anthropic PBC, 548 Market Street, San Francisco, CA 94104, USA, to prepare a draft reply. It can answer simple questions (for example about amenities or check-in) directly; questions about prices, dates, discounts or special requests are reviewed and answered by the host personally. For this purpose, your enquiry and the necessary apartment information are transmitted to Anthropic. According to Anthropic, data from API use is not used to train its models. The transfer to the USA is based on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework where the provider is certified, otherwise on the EU Standard Contractual Clauses (Art. 46 GDPR). There is no automated decision with legal effect (Art. 22 GDPR).
Abuse protection: To prevent spam, we store a non-reversible check value (hash) of your IP address together with the time for 24 hours when you submit the form (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). We do not use a captcha.
Enquiries that do not lead to a booking are deleted after 6 months at the latest. If a contract is concluded, the statutory retention periods (6 or 10 years) apply.
6. Booking via Smoobu
For availability, prices and booking, we use the booking system of Smoobu GmbH, Berlin, Germany. The booking window is only loaded when you click “Show availability” or open it in a separate window. From that point on, Smoobu processes your IP address and the details you enter there (travel dates, number of guests, contact details, billing address) to carry out the booking (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). Smoobu acts as our processor. Payments are processed by PayPal (Europe) S.à r.l. et Cie, S.C.A., Luxembourg, and, for credit cards, by Stripe Payments Europe, Ltd., Dublin, Ireland; their privacy notices also apply.
Smoobu also processes bookings received via portals such as Booking.com or Airbnb. Our guest assistant reads messages and booking data via the Smoobu interface to answer guest questions and issue invoices.
7. External links
Our pages link to reviews on Booking.com, Airbnb and Google, to Google Maps and to destinations. Data is only transferred to the respective provider when you click such a link.
8. Your rights
- Access (Art. 15 GDPR)
- Rectification (Art. 16 GDPR)
- Erasure (Art. 17 GDPR)
- Restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR)

- Withdrawal of consent with effect for the future (Art. 7(3) GDPR)
Right to object: Where we process data on the basis of legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR), you may object at any time on grounds relating to your particular situation (Art. 21 GDPR). An informal message to anfrage@residenz-cheval.de is sufficient.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, for example the State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information of Baden-Württemberg.
9. Obligation to provide data
The information in the contact form is voluntary. However, without your name, e-mail address and message we cannot answer your enquiry. For a booking, the details marked as mandatory in the booking system are required.
